Unknown Worlds, a creative studio under Krafton (CEO Kim Chang-han), announced that it began pre-sales and pre-downloads for its new ocean survival game, 'Subnautica 2,' on Steam starting at midnight on the 12th (KST), ahead of its early access launch.
Subnautica 2 has held the top spot on Steam’s global wishlist for the past nine months, recently surpassing 5 million total wishlists and proving its global appeal. Reflecting this popularity, the game soared to number one on Steam’s global top-selling games chart immediately after pre-orders opened.
Prior to this, Krafton held the 'First Dive Showcase' on the 10th, where it demonstrated gameplay featuring new vehicles, a base-building system, and an evolved underwater ecosystem. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the new title enhances immersion through more sophisticated lighting effects and realistic visuals. It also introduces a 4-player co-op mode for the first time in the series, adding a new layer of strategic survival gameplay to enjoy with friends.
Ted Gill, CEO of Unknown Worlds, expressed his excitement over the enthusiastic response to the early access launch and shared his anticipation for the process of developing the game alongside the community. Lee Jin-hyung, a division head at Krafton, also emphasized, "Surpassing 5 million wishlists is a testament to the trust fans worldwide have in the Subnautica IP. The intricately designed ecosystem will provide a truly enjoyable exploration experience."
Building on the reputation of its predecessor, which pioneered the ocean survival genre, Subnautica 2 is set to launch in early access on May 15.
