Team Mid continued its early-season dominance in League of Legends esports, capturing the 2026 Season Opening title with an undefeated run and reaffirming the mid lane’s reputation as the game’s most mechanically demanding role.
Riot Games announced Friday that Team Mid defeated squads composed of other positional specialists to win the “2026 LoL Season Opening: For Demacia,” held at the LCK Arena in LoL Park, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The exhibition-style tournament featured teams built entirely around a single in-game position.
The championship roster featured some of the most recognizable names in Korean League of Legends: Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon, Jung “Chovy” Ji-hoon, and Heo “ShowMaker” Su. With the victory, Team Mid claimed back-to-back Season Opening titles, having also won the event in 2025.
Matchups were determined by mini-games played by designated captains from each position-based team. Moon “Oner” Hyeon-jun of Team Jungle finished first in the mini-games and chose to skip a bye, selecting Team Mid as his opening opponent. The decision led to a lopsided result, as Team Mid secured a 22-minute victory with a 42–8 kill score. Playing support for the event, ShowMaker piloted LeBlanc and recorded a team-high 12 kills.
Other matches highlighted contrasting styles and late-game swings. Team Bottom advanced after a comeback win over Team Support, overcoming early pressure from Ryu “Keria” Min-seok’s Zoe through disciplined farming and late-game execution.
2026 LoL Season Opening Results
Team Mid’s path to the title continued with a win over Team Top. After weathering early pressure, the squad turned the game at 19 minutes, secured Baron Nashor at 20 minutes, and closed out the match following a decisive team fight around the mid lane.
The final against Team Bottom showcased several gameplay changes introduced for the 2026 season. Team Bottom built an early lead, but Team Mid reversed momentum with a fight just before Baron spawned. Despite a late surge led by Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan, Team Mid sealed the championship behind initiations from Faker and late-game damage from Chovy.
The event served as an early look at the updated Summoner’s Rift, including Baron Nashor’s 20-minute respawn and new quest-based progression systems. Following the Season Opening, the 2026 LCK Cup begins Wednesday with KT Rolster facing DN Supers.
