On Oct. 17, Liiv SANDBOX announced that they’ve named Yoo “Ryu” Sang-wook as their head coach for the 2023 season through 2024. As of this announcement, Ryu will move from his former academy coach position to the head coach of Liiv SANDBOX’s main team.

Ryu started his career in the LoL esports scene as a mid laner of StarTale. Over his career, he played for several teams around the world — KT Rolster, Millenium, Team ROCCAT, H2k-Gaming, Phoenix1, and 100 Thieves before retiring and doing his mandatory military service.

Aside from his player career, Ryu had also served as a coach of the 100 Thieves for a short period of time. Last July, Ryu signed with Liiv SANDBOX as an academy coach.

Liiv SANDBOX had a great season in the 2022 LCK summer season, as they finished 3rd place for the season and in the playoffs. They weren’t able to reach Worlds, as they lost to DRX in the regional qualifiers, but the team showed hope for the next year.
