Carlos Rodríguez suspended by Riot Games for Andrew Tate posts

According to an official announcement by LoL Esports, former-CEO of G2 Esports, Carlos Rodríguez has been suspended from any potential operational or managerial duties with organizations participating in Riot-sanctioned competitions. The suspension lasts until Nov. 13, 2022, and also requires Rodríguez to complete sensitivity training and executive training by an independent third-party.

The news comes after the esports veteran and G2 founder was put on an eight-week leave from his duties after posting a video on Twitter celebrating with Andrew Tate — a figure controversial for his misogyny and alleged human trafficking — later announcing that he was resigning as CEO of the organization.

The League of Legends European Championship (LEC) launched an investigation around the same time, later stating that he violated Article 9.2.5 of the LEC Rules, stating, "Team Managers/Members may not give, make, issue, authorise or endorse any statement or action having, or designed to have, an effect prejudicial or detrimental to the best interest of the League, Riot Games or its affiliates, or League of Legends, as determined in the sole and absolute discretion of the League." The ruling later details that by publicly associating with Andrew Tate, Rodríguez participated in an activity that was harmful to the best interest of League and Riot Games.

Rodríguez will be required to participate in sensitivity training and executive training to return to Riot-sanctioned esports events in an official capacity. The announcement goes on to detail that Rodríguez must "provide evidence of completion to the LEC, within 120 days of this ruling, but no later than before his return", as well as "submit the proposed provider to the League for approval, including evidence of qualifications such as educational certificates, training and experience." At the time of this article's publication, Rodríguez has not issued any comment on the ruling.
