LCK regional qualifiers to be held Sep. 1-3

Source: LCK

The LCK regional qualifiers for the 2022 LoL World Championship will be held from Sep. 1 through Sep. 3. The LCK will send four teams to Worlds 2022 as they have had good results at Worlds 2021 and at MSI 2022. Currently, two teams, Gen.G and T1, have secured a spot at Worlds. The remaining two teams will be decided among Liiv SANDBOX, DWG KIA, KT Rolster, and DRX.

The top seed will be given to the winner at the grand finals of the LCK, and the runner-up will be the second seed as Gen.G and T1 collected the most championship points. These teams will head straight to the group stage.

The four teams that will participate in the regional qualifiers are ranked based on the championship points. DWG KIA collected 100 points, so they will start at the top seed in the regional qualifiers. Liiv SANDBOX collected 80, KT Rolster and DRX collected 30. Kwangdong Freecs also collected 30 points, but as the summer season points have more value, they failed to reach the regional qualifiers.

The regional qualifiers will be held in a waterfall bracket tournament. DWG KIA and Liiv SANDBOX will clash in the upper bracket, while KT Rolster and DRX will meet in the lower bracket. The upper bracket winner will secure the third seed and head straight to the group stage. The loser will face the winner of the lower bracket to decide the final seed that heads to the play-in stage. All regional qualifier matches will be held in a Bo5 format.

Worlds 2022 will begin on Sep. 29 in Mexico City. The group stage and knockout stage will be held in New York and Atlanta and will finish with the grand finals in San Francisco.
