Astralis secures first win of the season by handing Rogue first loss of the season

Astralis has finally done it. After failing to win a single game thus far in the 2022 LEC Spring Split, AST secured their first victory against 1st place Rogue, who had not lost a game in 2022 before being taken down by Astralis.

Astralis has come close before — just last week, they had double the kills of their opponents in Team Vitality before throwing the potential victory away in the late game. Rogue, on the other hand, has looked near untouchable as easily the best team in the LEC, and arguably the entire Western hemisphere.

Still, a best-of-one regular season format is primed for upsets, and Astralis was able to pull the win against Rogue in large part due to the dragon stacking that led them to an Ocean Soul. The healing from the Ocean Soul was instrumental in Astralis, a team who has struggled to be on the same page in the late game when trying to take decisive fights, shutting the door on Rogue.

Astralis is currently quarantining due to COVID-19 cases, and like many LEC teams, is playing remotely. Even so, the look of the team on the player cams was one of relief as opposed to celebration. Taking down Rogue is no small feat, but Astralis has a long way to go if they want to turn things around and qualify for the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs.

At 1-9, Astralis is in sole possession of 10th place in the 2022 LEC Spring Split. Rogue, now 9-1, is still a few games ahead of the 2nd place tie between Fnatic and G2 Esports.

Rookie mid laner Oliver "Dajor" Ryppa was awarded Player of the Game in Astralis' win over Rogue for a phenomenal performance on Vex, a champion that has previously underwhelmed in the young LEC season.
