In the penultimate match of the 2021 League of Legends European Championship Summer Playoffs, Fnatic demolished Rogue 3-0 to qualify for the finals. Fnatic will look to complete its miraculous lower bracket run against the undefeated MAD Lions tomorrow, the latter of whom will be looking to defend its domestic title from spring.
The series was expected to be competitive, but Fnatic ran Rogue over in less than three hours in a clean sweep.
Rogue jungler Kacper "Inspired" Słoma, widely considered to be the best jungler in the LEC, was nowhere to be found against Gabriël "Bwipo" Rau as Fnatic mid laner Yasin "Nisqy" Dincer outshone Emil "Larssen" Larsson in all three games of the series, highlighted by a monstrous performance on Cassiopeia.
Despite a 1st place finish in the 2021 LEC Summer Split, Rogue has had a rough post-season. After narrowly sidestepping a loss to a well-prepared Misfits in its first match, Rogue was beaten convincingly by MAD Lions 3-1 and dropped down the lower bracket. Fnatic has surged in momentum throughout the Summer Playoffs, winning three consecutive lower bracket series 3-2 against Team Vitality, Misfits, and G2 Esports before steamrolling Rogue 3-0.
Rogue will have to settle for the third seed representing the LEC at the 2021 World Championship this fall. In addition to the LEC title, MAD and FNC will also be battling for the LEC's 1st seed for Worlds 2021.
Despite slumping this summer upon returning from the 2021 Mid-Sesaon Invitational, MAD Lions has far and away been the cleanest team in the LEC Summer Playoffs. Fnatic's momentum is undeniable coming into the finals, but MAD play a similar style and are the best teamfighting team in the league. Since MAD thrives in chaos, Fnatic will have to rely on constant creativity and unpredictability to finish off its incredible lower bracket run with a summer title.
