Preorders open for PlayStation 5 merch before console launch

While the Playstation 5 may not be arriving until later this week, or next week in some parts of the world, Sony has already opened pre-orders on a PS5-branded
merch capsule. The collection is aimed at those in cooler climates, this drop includes everything from outerwear to a light-up water bottle.

A quilted bomber jacket leads the release from Sony, with a clean silhouette. An embroidered PS5 logo is the only stand-out detail on the outside of the jacket. A brilliant Sony-blue lining shows a bit more character, patterned with DualSense wireless controllers. Cuts for both men and women are available, with minimal differences.

If you’re needing to transport something small and want to assert your Sony-allegiance, Playstation and Timbuk2 have collaborated on a sleek backpack that may fit your needs. Complete with a pouch for your PS5 water bottle (sold separately), the pack can fit a 15” laptop. If the specs are correct, you should just be able to snugly fit a Playstation 5 in the pack for a cross-town gaming trip. While we love the deep construction of this pack, we can’t help but feel its white panels would be a nightmare to keep clean.

Our favorite piece out of the bunch has to be the PS5 inspired Joggers, again in male and female cuts. Joggers have become an essential part of our collective COVID-era lives—a time when comfort is king—and Sony looks to deliver that with a Duratec fleece. Adding a pop of color and a nod to the PS5 color scheme, we get two panels and the return of the DualSense controller pattern above the right knee. Slash side-pockets give you a place to put your hands on a chilly walk to the corner store, and a zippered back pocket keeps your wallet from slipping out should you need to hop in the car.

The other fit that stood out to us was the university inspired Women’s Color Block Long Sleeve. Sony-blue and black. This shirt has a long cut and is meant to be worn large. Varsity stripes on the sleeves complement the simple katakana on the breast, giving a crisp appearance from the front, but branding is heavier on the back. There, you can spot a large, screen-printed DualSense controller and PS5 logo.

The capsule is rounded out with several other items, which you can see in the gallery below, but none of these felt particularly special to us. A water bottle that requires 3-AAA batteries? We’re good.

Which of these items are you going to grab? Which is an L? Let us know on social, and good luck getting your PS5 if you’re trying to pick one up this week.
