Excel Esports has brought in two new faces to lead the team. The British organization, partipants in the League of Legends European Championship, has hired former Fnatic CEO Wouter Sleijffers to be its CEO. Robin McCammon, who served as Director of Global Sports Marketing at adidas, is joining Excel Esports as its new CCO.
Sleijffers was with Fnatic from 2015 until April last year. During those years the team expanded to titles like Rainbow Six Siege and Fortnite, and became part of Riot Games' European League of Legends franchise, the LEC. In a press release, Sleijffers states: "Excel Esports is the most beloved brand in UK esports, and I’m delighted to take up this new challenge of building the organisation into a household name on a global scale."
McCammon doesn't have prior experience in esports, but he oversaw some of the largest projects over at adidas for traditional sports events. He was the Global Project Lead for UEFA 2012, and fulfilled a similar role for the World Cup of 2014. McCammon states: "I’m delighted to join the fastest growing entertainment sector with such an immensely ambitious and disruptive company, and I very much look forward to getting my teeth into establishing Excel as a world leader in the esports space.”
Storyteller by heart. If something is competitive, I am interested in it.
