The Overwatch League free agency is a hot topic in the esports world as of late. Many notable players are going to test the free agency market this offseason, which includes Grant “Moth” Espe and Dusttin “Dogman” Bowerman.

While other players are leaving the Overwatch League altogether to pursue other games like Young-Jin “Gamsu” Noh going back to League of Legends and Ashley “Trill” Powell going to VALORANT.

For the New York Excelsior, they have been one of the best teams in the league since the first season. However, they have always come so close to tasting the championship, only to spell defeat.

This season, they shook their roster up in hopes of getting over their hurdle and winning a championship for New York. They picked up players like Hong-joon "HOTBA" Choi formerly of Guangzhou Charge,  and Seung-jun "WhoRU" Lee and Dong-wook "BiaNcA" Kim from Overwatch Contenders. These players along with a rising DPS star like Yeon-kwan "Nenne" Jeong was set to bring NYXL to the next level.

Throughout the season, NYXL had their ups and downs, but managed to get into playoffs in order to qualify for the Grand Finals. But, they fell short once again to the Seoul Dynasty, who eventually played in this season's Grand Finals against the San Francisco Shock.

Shortly after the Grand Finals concluded, free agency started for many teams, including NYXL. As soon as the free agency period occurred, NYXL released Nenne, WhoRU, HOTBA, and BiaNcA.

Fans were surprised by these players releases; however, it may mean that NYXL can pick up quality players during off the season like Dong-jun "Rascal" Kim or bring back Tae-hong "MekO" Kim. There is going to be no shortage of quality players for NYXL or other OWL teams to pick up during this period of time. This Overwatch League offseason is going to be the most interesting time in the league's history.
