From July 16 through 20, the League of Legends (LoL) competition at the Esports World Cup will take place. Starting July 7 and running through August 24, the Esports World Cup is being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the LoL tournament is just about to kick off.
Many of the teams that competed at MSI—from LCK’s Gen.G, T1, and Hanwha Life Esports to LPL’s Bilibili Gaming and Absolute Legends—will be participating from July 16 to 20, adding even more intrigue as we follow the storylines these squads built at MSI.
The first match on the 16th pits CTBC Flying Oyster—who showed real strength at MSI—against Hanwha Life Esports. Although Hanwha Life, starting in the group stage, is unlikely to miss advancing to the upper bracket, the fact that each group-stage matchup is a single game remains the greatest wildcard.
From the 17th onward, the playoff bracket begins in earnest, with Gen.G and last year’s champion, T1, entering at this stage. All matches from this point through the semifinals are best-of-three (BO3), with only the final being best-of-five (BO5). Matches start at 6:00 PM KST on the 16th, and on the 20th—the day of the final—the third-place match begins at 5:00 PM, immediately followed by the championship match.
