In a landmark announcement at the League of Legends World Championship 2023 Finals in South Korea, Riot Games revealed that the 2024 Worlds Finals will be hosted at London's iconic O2 Arena. This marks the first time the UK will host the prestigious event, set for November 2nd, 2024.

Naz Aletaha, Global Head of LoL Esports, expressed excitement about bringing the event to the UK, citing London's rich cultural heritage and vibrant modernity as ideal settings for the most important League of Legends competition of the year. Aletaha reminisced about the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by UK fans during the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational, held at London's Copper Box Arena, as a deciding factor in choosing the O2 Arena, which boasts a capacity of 20,000.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the city's role as a leading destination for esports. He acknowledged the event's potential to unite fans globally and highlight London's burgeoning gaming industry. Khan reiterated his commitment to supporting esports development in the city.

The decision to host Worlds 2024 in London follows the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational's success in the city, where JD Gaming claimed victory. The upcoming event is expected to surpass the size of the previous tournament, offering nearly 4,000 more seats than Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome, the venue for the 2023 Worlds Finals.

Riot Games' announcement coincides with the end of the 2023 League season and follows the record-breaking viewership of the Seoul Worlds event. With the O2 Arena's history of hosting legendary artists and major sports events (including The BRIT Awards, C2C Festival, and Queen + Adam Lambert), the 2024 Worlds Finals is poised to be a milestone in esports history. As the global esports community anticipates the London spectacle, fans eagerly await additional announcements regarding other stages of the tournament, potentially in other citites throughout Europe.
