On Jun. 23, in the 2023 LCK Summer Split, Hanwha Life Esports faced Liiv SANDBOX. The two teams fought fiercely through three games, but Hanwha Life Esports prevailed in the end, and Liiv SANDBOX suffered their fourth loss of the season. After the match, head coach Yoo “Ryu” Sang-wook and bot laner Park “Teddy” Jin-seong joined the media for a brief interview.
How do you evaluate today’s game?
Ryu: As I watched today’s game, I thought we could win, but when we had the upper hand in game 3, our decision-making wasn’t good. That’s the biggest reason that we lost.
Teddy: Everyone did alright, but we were pushed around even when we were ahead.
As of today’s match, 1/3 of the season is over. How has it been?
Ryu: It’s a bit disappointing that we’re 2-4 after three weeks. We had an easier comp in game three today, and it’s really regretful that we lost that game. Up to now, we have been losing to the comparably stronger teams. When we face them again, I want to show a different performance.
You picked Varus in two straight games, even though Varus isn’t picked that often in the meta.
Ryu: When we compared our champion pool and theirs, we could have played a different champion. But as we prepared, we thought that Varus could gain the initiative in the bot lane and have a high late-game ceiling at the same time, so we practiced it.
(To Teddy) You said that you were pushed around even when ahead. Were there any communication issues?
Teddy: We were just too much in a hurry during teamfights. I think we should be more calm.
You’ll be facing relatively weaker teams next week. How will you face DRX and Kwangdong Freecs?
Ryu: Our matches next week are essential. We have to win both matches to start a winning streak. We’ll do our best to do so.
Teddy: There’s still a long way to go, so we must do our best. I’ll do as best as I can.
