On the 23rd (KST), Hanhwa Life Esports announced that the captain and the Bot Laner for the League of Legends team, Gwon ‘Sangyoon’ Sang-yun has retired.

To show their appreciation towards Sangyoon, Hanhwa Life Esports will be putting on Sangyoon’s uniform and handprint on display at their official training center, ‘Camp One’.

Also, for the fans that have supported Sangyoon over the years, Hanhwa Life Esports will also be streaming Sangyoon’s retirement ceremony on the 6pm of the 24th (KST), live on their official Youtube channel. It will be a time where Sangyoon will be talking about his retirement, as well as to chat with his fans.

Sangyoon first joined the pro scene through Challengers Korea in 2014 with Rebels Anarchy (currently rebranded as Afreeca Freecs). He then promoted into the LCK in 2015, transferred over to ROX Tigers in 2016, and ever since Hanhwa Life Esports acquired ROX Tigers’ spot in the LCK in April of 2018, Sangyoon has been the captain of the team.

Sangyoon caught the attention of many, even before he debuted as a pro. He was always considered to always be a solid player, and even was the main shotcaller on his team, which, for a Bot Laner, is still considered to be very rare.

He was also the 8th player in the LCK to record a 1000 kills in the league, in which he achieved in the shortest amount of time among any other players to hold the same record.

Hanhwa Life Esports commented, “We want to thank Sangyoon for not only being such an incredible player, but also for his efforts as the captain of our team and bringing our team together. We believe that whatever the next endeavor in his life may be, he will achieve much success, just as he has done with us.”
