The Korean Representatives for the 2018 World Championship Have Been Locked in... KT-Afreeca-Gen.G to Advance

The three teams that'll be competing in the 2018 League of Legends World Championship on behalf of the LCK have been locked in. The 3rd and last team that secured their ticket to Worlds was Gen.G Esports.

On the 16th, at the Gangnam Nexon Arena, Gen.G Esports defeated Kingzone DragonX in the 2018 League of Legends Korea Regional Qualifier and won their ticket to Worlds. The teams that'll be attending the tournament are KT Rolster, Afreeca Freecs, and Gen.G Esports.

KT Rolster won the LCK Summer Finals and were the first to lock in their spot in the World Championship. It had been 3 years since KT last attended Worlds. The second Koran team to qualify for Worlds is Afreeca Freecs. AFs failed to reach the LCK Summer Finals, but thanks to KT Rolster defeating Griffin, Afreeca qualified for Worlds for their first time since the establishment of the organization.

The 3rd and final ticket to Worlds was taken by Gen.G Esports. In both 2016 and 2017, GEN qualified for Worlds through the Regional Qualifier. And yet again, they displayed exceptional performance throughout the gauntlet and took down SKT T1, Griffin, and Kingzone to qualify for the World Championship this year.

According to Riot Games' rules, all three LCK teams will skip the Play-In Stage and move up directly to the Group Stage. Although all five major leagues (LCK, LPL, EU LCS, NA LCS, and LMS) were given two Group Stage tickets and one Play-In ticket in the past, the leagues which had the best results in the past 2 years are instead given 3 Group Stage tickets. LCK won this privilege once again this year.

On the other hand, the 2018 League of Legends World Championship will be held in Korea. Beginning with the Play-In Stage on the 1st of October at the Seoul 'LoL Park', the Group Stage will take place from the 10th to 17th, and the quarterfinals on the 20th and 21st at Busan in the same month. The semifinals will take place in Gwangju, Korea on the 27th and 28th of October, and the highly anticipated Finals will take place in Incheon on the 3rd of November.
