KT Mata: "After the Ma-Ta comp became popular, there were less search results on me so I was kind of disappointed."

On the 13th of June (KST), in the 2018 LCK Summer Split Day 2, kt Rolster shut out Jin Air Green Wings 2-0. Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong played Tahm Kench and Ornn in this match. In the games, his performance was great in protecting his teammates as well as initiating.

The following is the interviewe with Mata.

Q. You won the first match. How do you feel?

I was quite worried because there was a lot of change in the meta recently. I feel good because we won in our style.

Q. Your comp was different in games 1 and 2. What was the difference?

Our comp for game 1 was weaker than the opponent in the early game. Since our comp had stronger champions from Lv.6, we tried not to fight in the early game. In game 2, our composition was good to start snowballing and we did that.

Q. How is the support role different in this meta?

There’s not much change to the support position. Since there are many different champions in the ADC position now, the champion that goes the best with it gets picked. However, many different champions may appear according to what each teams prepare.

Q. During the early-mid game in game 1, you traded several kills and turrets. How was it?

The game didn’t go as well as we thought. Still, we didn’t die much and played safe so we weren’t anxious. We did everything that we wanted to do.

Q. Your next opponent is Afreeca Freecs. Many different champions might appear.

All teams prepare different comps so I can’t predict which champion will appear. Personally, I just play what I used to play so it’s not more fun for me. (Laughs) I think the mid laner and ADC will have fun.

Q. Is there any personal goals for you?

There are times that I have trouble both physically and mentally; maybe it's because I don’t exercise much after becoming a pro gamer. So I want to win the championship again so that I can refresh myself. I want to become more driven and become a player that can be around for long.

Q. How did you feel when you first heard of the Ma-Ta (Master Yi - Taric) comp?

I often search myself in the search engines, but after the Ma-Ta comp became popular, there were less search results on me so I was kind of disappointed. (Laughs) Now it takes more time to look for things related to me.

Q. You’re very good at other positions too. Don’t you want to try playing in another position?

I did think that, but it’s hard to do so in competitions. I’m confident enough to play in other positions, but there’s no player that can fill my shoes in the support position. (Laughs)

Q. Do you have any last comments?

Although I always say this, I’ll always do my best. I think I should play better because we play against many strong teams early in the season.
