2018 MSI Play-In Stage Round 1 Group Draw Results

On the 24th, at the Berlin EU LCS Studio, the 2018 MSI Play-In Stage Group Draw took place.

To begin, the teams that will contend in the '2018 MSI Play-In Stage Round 1' are as follows:

Group A:
LLN's Rainbow7 (LAN)
LCL's Gambit Esports (CIS)
CLS's Kaos Latin Gamers (LAS)
GPL's Ascension Gaming (SEA)

Group B:
CB LOL's KaBum! e-Sports (BR)
TCL's BAUSuperMassive (TUR)
OPL's Dire Wolves (OCE)
LJL's PENTAGRAM (JPN)

Once again we see familiar names for this year's MSI, including KaBum, Gambit, and Dire Wolves. A total of 8 teams will clash, and only one team from each group will advance to Round 2.

Winners of each group in Round 1 will advance to Round 2, where they will face LMS's Flash Wolves (LMS) and VCS's EVOS Esports (VN). The two winners from Round 2 will then take the remaining two spots in the Group Stage.

Can someone tell me why LMS is in the playin rounds..

They performed the worst at worlds or what??

    Wasnt it NA?

Feels like unfair for other teams going into round 2 having to face against LMS flash wolves since theyre usually really good and tw is the only region that really ever does well against KR

      @Osuka_Yun

If you watched the WC 2017, then you know LMS did worst as a region, 3rd seed eliminated in the 2nd Round of the play-ins and the 1st and 2nd seeds got eliminated in the group stage, NA was the 2nd worst major region, only 1 of their 3 teams advancing to quarterfinals, meanwhile in case of emerging regions like Vietnam, YGE advanced to the Round 2 apart from beating once to FNC, they got eliminated there by WE and GAM although they didn't advance beyond the group stage, they reached a tiebreaker in their group, so, it was a good performance as a region for Vietnam, still not enough to pass the other 4 major regions, which did better than them and LMS.

The format of play-ins rewards and punish regions which do well or bad respectively, if LMS keep doing bad and FW'd lose against one of the other regions from the play-in, it means other regions are rising and LMS is falling, so, it's not unfair, it's a test for both sides.

By the way, at the end of the day, why do you want to advance more stages if you're not supposed to win later? "- A play-in region could directly advance to the group stage. - Whoo!! - But, they ended 0-10 there. - Oh..."
