History Repeats Itself: Samsung Galaxy's 2016-2017 can become an urban legend

▲ Samsung Galaxy, Again 2016

Although player skills are extremely important in sports, a lot of fans have made many superstitious speculations when same things happen over and over again. The biggest example is the 'Curse of the Bambino' in the MLB.

Esports is not excused. There have been many instances where fans have stated that if a specific caster casts a match, the series will always go to its final game (Game 5 on a Bo5). There also have been many superstitious remarks that some players will never win a tournament, despite having qualified for the Finals on multiple occasions - like 'soO' from StarCraft 2.

And in the recent Korean regional qualifiers for 'League of Legends', fans witnessed a peculiar happening. Almost too hard to call it a coincidence, 'Samsung Galaxy' did something not remotely, but extremely similar to that of last year.

As seen from the graph above, the regional qualifiers from last year and this year are extremely similar. The only differences are that SSG played against KT instead of SKT during the Summer playoffs and that LZ took the cup instead of Rox. On top of it all, SSG's starting roster is exactly the same from last year, being: Ambition, CuVee, Crown, Ruler, and CoreJJ.

Of course, SSG being qualified for Worlds is not just a mere coincidence - they made it happen with their countless efforts. As a matter of fact, even when compared to every other team in the LCK, SSG players have played the most amount of Solo Queue games - for each position.

Will SSG continue this trend of repeating history? Will they once again land in 2nd place during Worlds? We'll soon find out.
