On October 21, Riot Games applied Patch 26.21 to 'League of Legends (LoL)' and updated the 'ARAM: Mayhem' mode with the new 'Journey to Stardom' theme. This update introduces the Headliner system, which grants unique rules to every match, along with 35 new augments and progression missions.
| 📒 | - 'Journey to Stardom' introduced to ARAM: Mayhem in 'LoL' Patch 26.21 - Adds 8 Headliner rules including K/DA and Pentakill, progression rewards, and 35 new augments - Summoner's Rift balance changes, 4 new champions join Classic, and replay download limit applied |
The core of this Mayhem update is the 'Headliner performance' featured in every match. During combat, music from representative bands and themes plays as background music, with unique rules applied each game depending on the selected Headliner.
A total of 8 Headliners were revealed. 'LoL's flagship virtual bands lead the lineup: ▲K/DA (collect 4 cards to earn an extra augment), ▲HEARTSTEEL (grants unique bonus effects to augments), ▲True Damage (takedowns and tower destruction can drop Anvils for teammates), and ▲Pentakill (increases the power of one ability at game start and level 18). In addition, various mechanics were introduced, including ▲Disco (everyone gains gold when dancing under the disco ball), ▲Cafe Cuties (enhances Health Relic performance), ▲Bees (collect honey pots while dodging bees), and ▲Command Line (rerolling an augment selection upgrades one to a higher tier).
A new progression system was also introduced. Players can complete missions for each band, such as K/DA and Pentakill, to raise progression and earn rewards like augments, emotes, and Orange Essence. Playing games and completing missions increases your 'Superstar Rank', unlocking new bands and missions sequentially. However, as concert stage setup is taking longer, the 'Butcher's Bridge' and 'Koeshin's Crossing' maps will be disabled in Mayhem for this patch, scheduled to return in the next patch.
A total of 35 new augments spanning Silver, Gold, and Prismatic tiers were added to expand combat variables. Stat-converting augments include 'Blessing of the Drowned', which converts all bonus item Health into Lethality; 'Rich Brain', which grants Ability Power proportional to bonus Health; 'No Mana, No Problem', which converts item Mana into Ability Power; 'Tickle Monster', which converts item Attack Damage into Attack Speed; and the Prismatic tier 'Heavy Blow', which converts Attack Speed into Critical Strike Damage.
Augments that grant dedicated Summoner Spells or unique mechanics also stand out. 'Dance of Death' provides a high-risk, high-reward Summoner Spell that grants invulnerability for 5 seconds upon use, but drags the user to the afterlife if they fail to score a takedown within that duration. Other additions include 'Get Jinxed', which lets players ride a rocket that flies toward enemies and explodes; 'Trumpet Blast', which channels power into a trumpet to knock back enemies; 'High Recoil', which knocks the player backward whenever they cast a specific ability; and 'Jeweled Gauntlet', which allows ultimate abilities to critically strike.
Meanwhile, 13 previously available augments were removed from the roster with this patch, including 'Hide on bush', 'Searing Interest', 'Lethal Acceleration', 'Lethal Missiles', 'Dimension Shift', 'Dropbear', 'Dropkick', 'Fan the Hammer', 'High Roller', 'Our Heal', 'Poro Stampede', 'Soul Purge', and 'Ult Bot'.
In addition to the Mayhem update, Patch 26.21 included champion and item balance adjustments on Summoner's Rift. Following the World Championship patch, champions like Azir, Orianna, and Ryze received buffs to bolster their baseline strength, while Caitlyn, Jinx, Lee Sin, Yone, and others were nerfed. In 'League Classic', Mordekaiser, Yorick, Hecarim, and Lucian joined with their legacy skill kits, while Kassadin and 'Atma's Impaler' were restored to their peak stats. Furthermore, to prevent mass scraping abusing vibe coding apps, replay downloads are limited to 10 per hour.
