Double Stallion released an expanded demo for its upcoming co-op action RPG 'Surfpunk' on October 20 to align with Steam Next Fest. Steam Next Fest runs from October 19 to 26, and the demo is playable throughout the event. Publishing is co-handled by Double Stallion and Vendetta.
'Surfpunk' is a game playable by up to four players, described by the developer as a "Surf n' Slash" title. Set in Evora, a world submerged into an ocean after a massive flood, players become Raiders—part-surfer, part-pirate—and explore islands teeming with monsters known as Sumi in search of Evress, an ancient energy source. Players travel between islands riding high-speed "Rushboards" and even surf atop incoming tsunamis.
Weapons are categorized into four types: swords, dual pistols, anchors, and guitars, with each having unique abilities, movement options, and team roles. The islands explored are procedurally generated for each mission, and completing a mission allows players to unlock skills, equipment, stats, cosmetic items, and higher difficulty levels.
This demo features a reworked forge system, alongside 32 new mods and four new skills. Three new cutscenes and cosmetic items have also been added. A lobby code feature was introduced to make teaming up with friends easier, and a movement speed buff was applied for solo players. Players who played the demo during the first two days of the event, October 19 and 20, were granted exclusive cosmetic items.
Currently supported languages include English, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Latin American Spanish. While Korean was not included in this demo, the developer confirmed to Inven that it plans to support Korean starting from the game's Early Access launch. Previously, Double Stallion Creative Director Eric Angelillo also mentioned plans to support Korean subtitles during an on-site interview at BitSummit last May.
Double Stallion is a game development studio located in Montreal, Canada, known for developing 'CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story', which stars the League of Legends champion Ekko. Further details can be found on the 'Surfpunk' Steam page.
