Blizzard Entertainment launched 'Reign of the Black Empire', a new expansion for its digital strategy card game Hearthstone, on October 21 (KST). The expansion introduces 135 collectible cards, including four Old Gods.
The newly introduced keyword 'Assemble' alters part of a minion's card text after it is added to your hand. Players replace text by selecting from a set list of other minions, allowing them to customize minions and build armies suited to their strategy. Cards featuring 'Titanforged'—ancient guardians created by the Titans to wage war against the Black Empire—also appear as tools to counter the forces of the Old Gods.
The four Old Gods added as neutral Legendary cards are 'C’Thun, Eye of the Empire', 'Mastermind Yogg-Saron', 'N'Zoth, Dream's End', and 'Y'Shaarj, Titan Bane'. Decks can include only one of these Old Gods, each of which possesses four unique abilities. Instead of attacking, an Old God can use two abilities per turn, attacking directly only after exhausting all four abilities.
The expansion-wide campaign 'Journey' launched on October 14. Accessible through the Hearthstone Journal, this content unifies story, Journey Quests, rewards, and events into a single campaign. The first chapter, 'Path to Ny'alotha', consists of seven parts, with new story content and Journey Quests set to unlock weekly over seven weeks.
An event exploring 'Ny'alotha', the capital of the Black Empire, runs from launch day on October 21 through November 11. Completing event quests rewards players with items including the 'Ritual N'Zoth' Warlock hero skin.
Detailed information regarding launch events and rewards is available on the official Hearthstone website.
