Indie publisher rokaplay and Vienna-based developer Mipumi Games have announced that A Game About Digging A Hole Together, a co-operative (co-op) follow-up to the viral hit A Game About Digging a Hole, will launch on December 4th 2026.

According to a release, the date was revealed at the ID@Xbox IGN Showcase, where a new trailer also premiered. The game is coming to PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC, as well as PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. It will be on Xbox Game Pass too.

Up to four players can now dig into their (newly improved) garden together. The release leaves one question hanging: what waits at the bottom? Players find out in December.

From a side project to a million copies

The first game started as a side project. A single developer built it in a few weeks; it then climbed into the top 30 on the Steam charts. According to the release, it has sold over 1m copies.

The sequel keeps the same loop (dig, sell, upgrade, keep digging), which the release says has been improved ‘from the ground up’. There is more terrain to cut through, plus more tools and secrets to find. More players, too. Friends, the release notes, are not included.

Over the past few months, Mipumi Games rebuilt the game's entire code so it runs more smoothly. The original developer is still on board, now working with the full team. After the first game's surprise success, the studio also went through player reviews and requests; that feedback went straight into the new title, the release says.

The digging tech has its own history. Its voxel engine came from an early version of Solarpunk, which the release calls ‘the hit game’. Voxel games build their worlds out of small 3D blocks, which is what lets players carve through the ground one chunk at a time.
