AMD has announced that FSR 4.1, the latest version of its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology, is coming to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, its APUs and Xbox consoles.

The news came from Jack Huynh, AMD's Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 20th that he billed as "five drops". According to Huynh, FSR 4.1 has been "tuned and optimized from the 6900 series down to the 6400 class" of RX 6000 cards. He added that this is the first time FSR 4.1 will come to APUs, the chips that combine a processor and graphics on a single piece of silicon.

Which devices are covered

The APU support spans all Gorgon Halo and Strix Halo chips for mini desktops and mobile workstations, as well as all Gorgon and Strix Ryzen 9 chips for laptops. Handhelds are included too, with Huynh listing all Z2E and Z2A chips "for your handhelds and for gamers on the go."

On the console side, Huynh said FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox, optimised for ASUS ROG Xbox handhelds and Xbox Series X|S. No release date was given for any of the updates.

What else AMD announced

Huynh also shared updates for AMD's newest cards. According to the post, FSR Redstone is now in more than 400 games on Radeon 9000 series graphics cards, and FSR Frame Generation now has more consistent frame pacing. Ray Regeneration is set to reach more games, and FSR support is coming "soon" to Vulkan, the graphics API, which Huynh described as "another way for developers to bring it into their games."

Huynh did not name which APUs could be next. He wrote: "Don't worry, we are working hard to bring FSR to more APUs in the future." In its own post, AMD said it powers "more than a billion gaming devices worldwide."
