The anime 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2', co-produced by CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, was released on Netflix on the 20th. Alongside the release, a new update adding anime-related content to the original game, 'Cyberpunk 2077', is scheduled to be released.
'Edgerunners 2' premiered exclusively on Netflix at 4:00 PM KST on the 20th, with all 10 episodes available to stream. It is a sequel coming approximately four years after the original series was released in 2022.
Like its predecessor, the series is set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and Night City, but functions as a standalone story centered on an entirely new cast of characters. The narratives of characters with distinct backgrounds intertwine as they explore themes of revenge and redemption.
As with the previous season, CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio Studio Trigger produced the project. Kai Igarashi took over direction following Hiroyuki Imaishi from the first season, with Ichigo Kanno joining as chief character designer. Additionally, Masahiko Otsuka, who worked on the first season, and Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor returned to the team. Sztybor served as showrunner, writer, and producer for this project.
Alongside the anime release, CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, dubbed the 'Edgerunners 2 Update'. The update will be distributed for free on PC, PS5, and XSX|S on the upcoming 22nd KST, with a release for the Nintendo Switch 2 version planned at a later date.
The update adds various new items and features, including content inspired by Edgerunners 2. Currently revealed features include cyberware customization and new playstyles utilizing two-handed weapons. However, the specific details and full scope of the content have not yet been disclosed.
CD Projekt Red plans to showcase the main highlights of the update during its official REDstream broadcast, scheduled for 5:00 PM local time on the 21st (midnight KST on the 22nd). The broadcast will stream on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam, with official patch notes set to be released on the same day.
