BeamNG has launched BeamNG.drive, its soft-body physics driving simulator, on PlayStation 5 (PS5) in Early Access. The console edition is out now at $24.99 USD — the same price as on Steam — and arrives alongside the game's v0.40 update on PC and PS5.
According to a release, PlayStation players get open-world exploration, Career Mode and a range of scenarios across 12 maps. Local split-screen support is part of the launch package, so two people can play on the same console.
Soft-body physics sims model a vehicle as many connected parts rather than a single rigid shell, so crashes and impacts deform components in real time. BeamNG.drive has been a PC Early Access staple on Steam since 2015; the studio describes the console build as carrying the same level of detail PC players already know.
The v0.40 update lands on both platforms at once. On the base PS5 it adds AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) support; on PS5 Pro it adds PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). The patch also introduces a new vehicle, the local split-screen mode and assorted improvements, the announcement says.
What BeamNG.drive offers on PS5
Players can tweak wheels, suspension, engines and other parts across dozens of vehicles, from compact cars to heavy trucks. Free Roam lets them take any vehicle into the open sandbox and adjust conditions such as wind or gravity. Career Mode charts a progression from a beater to a larger fleet, while scenarios cover jobs such as truck deliveries, police pursuits and time trials.
A note for console buyers: mods are not supported on PlayStation at launch, and BeamNG said mod authoring tools are not currently planned for the platform. The studio aims for feature parity where it can, but that gap remains for now.
BeamNG.drive is available in Early Access on Steam and on the PlayStation Store. Both versions are set to keep receiving updates.
