Krafton has renamed 'Battlegrounds Mobile India Lite (BGMI LITE)', which it is preparing to launch in India, to 'BGMI Air.' On the same day, pre-registrations crossed 10 million.

On October 15, Krafton India announced through its official channels that BGMI LITE has been renamed to BGMI Air. Along with the new name, the company emphasized an even lighter play experience and expressed plans to bring BGMI to more players across India. The direction of development remains the same as previously announced: delivering the core fun of BGMI across a wider variety of devices via a reduced client size.
BGMI Air is a lightweight version of the original BGMI. Its initial download size is approximately 1GB, significantly smaller than the standard BGMI client. It targets budget smartphone users with limited storage space. Existing BGMI players can install and play it as a separate game without needing to transfer their accounts.
Krafton India first officially confirmed the development of the Lite version by posting a video on BGMI's official YouTube channel on August 16. On August 19, the company released a press release announcing plans to launch within the year. Pre-registration began on Google Play on August 25 for Android users in India, reaching 10 million in about 50 days. The schedule for iOS will be announced at a later date.
Krafton plans to officially launch BGMI Air in India within this year. According to local media reports, the company also plans to run an open beta prior to the official release.
BGMI is a game introduced by Krafton exclusively for India in 2021, after the Indian government banned 'PUBG Mobile' in September 2020. The service was blocked in July 2022 before resuming in May 2023. According to Krafton India, cumulative downloads for BGMI have exceeded 260 million.
