505 Games' indie publishing label 505 Pulse and developer Avantgarden announced on October 15 that they officially launched 'Among the Trolls,' a first-person adventure game inspired by Finnish mythology and folklore, on Steam.
'Among the Trolls' follows protagonist Anna as she travels from the United States to a remote cabin in Finland. Setting out to find her grandfather, who has vanished without a trace, Anna explores a forest interwoven with ancient legends and family memories to uncover the truth behind his disappearance.
Players must explore vast forests, remote islands, and rugged coasts to search for environmental clues and traces. The game unfolds Anna's family history through exploration, environmental storytelling, and encounters with entities rooted in Finnish folklore. Stories and beliefs inspired by Finnish folklore and the poetic traditions of the epic 'Kalevala' are also reflected in its lore.
The music was composed by Daniele Carmosino. Combining piano, cello, strings, analog synthesizers, and vocals, the score conveys the loss and isolation experienced by Anna. Featuring vocalist Maria Chiara Argirò, the track 'Endless Exile' incorporates trip-hop elements to add tension. The soundtrack is available on Steam and major digital music platforms.
Giorgio Macellari, Creative Director at Avantgarden, said, "Our goal was to make the forest feel like a mysterious, ancient, and living world," adding, "We look forward to players stepping into this hidden corner of Finland to discover legends, memories, and family truths."
'Among the Trolls' is priced at 21,000 won, with a 15% launch discount available through October 27.
