Big Fan Games officially released the retro FPS Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 15 (KST). This title features two playable characters, each equipped with distinct weapons and playstyles.
Published by Big Fan Games, a publishing label under Devolver Digital, and developed by Auroch Digital, this game is the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. Built around a single-player campaign, it delivers classic-style FPS combat with secrets and challenges scattered throughout. According to the press release, the title incorporates a decade of first-person shooter development experience accumulated by the team.
Players enter battle as newcomer Nyra Veyrath and returning protagonist Malum Caedo from the previous game. Nyra Veyrath, a Battle Sister of the Adepta Sororitas, utilizes agile movement and blades. Malum Caedo, an Ultramarine with a massive physical presence, sets himself apart from Nyra through his distinct arsenal and fighting style.
The story originates from a massive explosion triggered by Vashtorr the Arkifane. The catastrophe decimates most of the Imperium of Man's fleet, leading Malum and Nyra into battle to cleanse the corruption underpinning Vashtorr's schemes and banish him back to the Warp. Set in the 41st Millennium, the game introduces new enemies across various factions, including encounters with Nurglings and Chaos Cultists.
The gameplay trailer released alongside the launch showcases melee combat utilizing the Chainsword as well as gunplay. The newly added Melta weapon was also revealed for the first time in the video.
The soundtrack centers on guitars and drums, featuring new tracks contributed by composer Mick Gordon.
