Windup Games and Knights Peak Interactive have released a limited-time PC demo for Hela: of Mice & Magic, a co-op adventure that casts players as a small mouse helping a witch care for her land. The demo is live now on Steam and the Epic Games Store (plus the Xbox PC App), with full Steam Deck support, through the end of Steam Next Fest.
According to a release, the slice runs about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how much players explore. It sits on a bespoke map made only for the demo, set in a secluded area inspired by northern Sweden. Solo play and local split-screen co-op are both supported. The full game will allow up to four players in local and online co-op.
Players take the role of an agile mouse. The witch hands over a magic-infused Froggy pack, which helps with traversal and environmental puzzles. Physics objects and secrets sit along the path. Solo players can also use the Shade System, summoning magical copies of their mouse to clear obstacles that one mouse alone cannot handle.
What the demo asks of you
The task is simple on paper. Rekindle the witch's warding magic and gather enough Glimmer. Then chart a way back to her home. Along the route, the release says, travelers can roam freely and work physics-based gizmos. They can also lend a paw to creatures they meet.
The full game is due December 1st 2026. It launches digitally on PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. A limited physical ‘Harmony Edition’ is planned for Switch 2 and Xbox Series X, plus PlayStation 5; Xbox Series S and PC stay digital-only. Day-one Xbox Game Pass is planned. Collectors can order the Harmony Edition through Microids; the Steam store page lists the game for wishlist now.
Windup Games is based in Umeå, in northern Sweden. Knights Peak Interactive, a division of MY.GAMES, is publishing; Steam also lists Boltray Games (China) and Shochiku. More on the publisher is at knightspeak.com.
