Geguri joins ROX Orcas to play in APEX Season 4

Former EHOME pro player Se-yeon “Geguri” Kim has joined ROX Orcas, an Overwatch division of the esports team, ROX Gaming.

“We will announce the official signing to coincide with OGN’s APEX Season 4 roster lock-in, but it is true that Geguri has joined ROX Orcas,” said ROX Gaming’s executive director Ilnam Namgung, confirming ESPN’s reports on the player’s signing. Geguri will have an APEX debut match against Afreeca Freecs Blue on August 16th (KST).

Known as a highly skilled Zarya main, she made news when her seemingly inhuman plays caused her to be wrongly accused of using hacks while playing for UW Artisan in the early days of Overwatch. To debunk the allegations, she appeared on an Inven livestream to prove her innocence with her plays on camera.

After UW Artisan was bought out by EHOME, she stayed in Challengers despite repeated attempts at APEX. Since joining ROX Orcas to fill TyDolla’s role after he transferred to Afreeca Freecs Blue, Geguri will take her first step onto the APEX stage.

People are paying particular attention to this transfer due to how rare it is for a female player to debut in a premier esports league. The original StarCraft scene featured a handful of comparably skilled female gamers like ToSsGirL and January. With Geguri’s addition to the league, many are anxious to see how much of an impact she can make in APEX, and if her signing will bring on a new wave of pro female gamers.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that Geguri will be provided with separate living accommodations, unlike teammates living in the same teamhouse.
