Gen.G lost 1-2 to Dplus KIA in the final Round 4 match of the 2026 LoL Champions Korea (LCK), held at Chzzk LoL Park in Jonggak on August 22. The battle between the two teams was fiercely contested. Even in games where Gen.G took a major early lead, DK put up a fierce pursuit to keep the contest razor-thin. On a positive note for Gen.G, despite dropping the match 1-2, winning one set secured first place in the regular season, allowing them to hold onto the top spot for three consecutive years.
Below is the full interview with Gen.G Head Coach Ryu "Yoo Sang-wook" and Kim "Kiin" Gi-in.

Q. You suffered a disappointing 1-2 loss to DK. What is your overall review of the match?
Head Coach Ryu: We wanted to finish strong with a win today, so it is disappointing.
Kiin: Securing first place is great, but today's match is disappointing.
Q. Despite the loss, you ultimately secured first place in the regular season.
Head Coach Ryu: We had a tough time early on, but I am glad we ultimately took first place. I think the process itself was not bad.
Kiin: Our performance in Rounds 3 and 4 was not as good as we had hoped. Still, our form improved as time went on.
Q. Even when you had a major early lead, the opponent's pursuit and plays were sharp.
Head Coach Ryu: There were mistakes in every set today. We plan to go back and talk through those aspects.
Q. DK's growth has been remarkable. What aspects did you find difficult?
Head Coach Ryu: As a team, their operational strengths—whether pushing through on one side or defending—seem to be very strong.
Q. Although you took first place, what is the difference between the previous Gen.G and the current Gen.G?
Head Coach Ryu: I think it might be due to my own shortcomings, but we intend to prepare well so we can transform into an even stronger Gen.G.
Q. What areas need further improvement?
Head Coach Ryu: I will make sure that not only the players but also the coaching staff approach games with the same mindset.
Kiin: Same here. I think aligning under a single vision is the most important thing.
Q. Do you have any final words?
Head Coach Ryu: I am grateful to the fans who always supported us during tough times. With the playoffs ahead, we will prepare well and show a great performance.
Kiin: There were disappointing moments during the regular season. We will return with a good showing in the playoffs.
