Gamescom 2026 is set to strengthen its global market position with its largest edition to date, bringing together over 1600 exhibitors from 67 countries and fully booking its 233k-square-meter exhibition space.
As a central hub for the global gaming industry, Gamescom 2026 is kicking off with record-breaking achievements. International exhibitors account for 70% of the total, with 47 national pavilions representing 40 countries. Notably, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Morocco, and Nigeria are making their debut as new national pavilions. The sell-out of wildcard and Saturday tickets underscores the immense interest from visitors.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association (game), stated, "With the opening of Gamescom 2026 just days away, the outlook for this year is brighter than ever. We have more exhibitors from 67 countries, a record number of national pavilions, and a completely sold-out exhibition space. Combined with our largest-ever indie area, this year's Gamescom promises an unforgettable week showcasing the incredible diversity of gaming culture." He added, "We are also set to make history politically, including a visit from German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Both the industry and the community are looking forward to a special gaming festival that will be broadcast live to fans worldwide, as well as experienced on-site in Germany."
Gerald B\u00f6se, President and CEO of Koelnmesse, remarked, "Gamescom 2026 once again proves its economic significance not only for the German gaming industry but for the sector across Europe and the world." He added, "The high demand for participation demonstrates the vital role Gamescom plays for companies, institutions, and the global community. We look forward to a week filled with networking, business meetings, exclusive reveals, diverse programming, and the unique community energy that can only be found at Gamescom."
The Gamescom indie area, a key showcase of the event's diversity, will feature over 420 companies and hundreds of games, expanding by 16% from last year to reach its largest size ever. Highlighting the influence and creativity of small development teams, the key theme for this year is 'Small teams, big successes.'
A rich lineup of livestream programs is also prepared for online viewers. 'Gamescom Opening Night Live,' 'Gamescom Awesome Indies Show,' the charity event 'Gamescom GDQ,' and the on-site broadcast 'Gamescom Studio' will be streamed globally. The interactive content 'Gamescom epix' returns to guide fans on a space adventure, with 19 of the 67 total cards produced as physical collectibles for on-site visitors. Furthermore, on August 29 and 30, the 'Gamescom City Festival' will fill downtown Cologne with festive energy, featuring performances by Tess Ullmann & Band, The Notist, and more.
B2B events and conferences for the industry ecosystem have also been refined. Gamescom dev, the official developer conference held on August 24 and 25, will feature over 380 speakers across 18 stages, delivering 230 sessions. Speakers include Amir Satvat, Business Development Director at Tencent Games, and Anthony Gallegos, Creative Director of Subnautica 2. This year, dedicated tracks have been introduced for the first time to explore animation, level design, gameplay AI, and AI-assisted production processes.
On August 27, the Gamescom Congress will be held, featuring an opening address by German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and focusing on themes such as 'Playing field democracy' and 'The Games Effect.' The 'Gamescom Invest Circle,' which connects startups with global investors, will take place on the same day, and the integrated digital B2B app 'Gamescom biz' will provide a unified interface for all business activities.
