On Wednesday, June 24, final update details for Diablo 4's 14th season, 'Awakening of Death,' were released. Season 14 is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 1, at 2:00 AM KST. The season will introduce various changes, including new content like Rifts, a Mythic item overhaul, a Solo Self-Found (SSF) mode, quality-of-life improvements, and a Overwatch collaboration.

Season 14 theme: 'The Chaos Realm'
As the Awakening of Death season begins, the Era of Hatred ends, and a group known as the 'Cult of Death' emerges. The Cult of Death is blurring the boundaries between Sanctuary and the Chaos Realm through 'Chaos Rifts.' Throughout the season, 'Rift' events will occur across Sanctuary, including in Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and the Pit.
In addition to existing bosses, Rifts will summon a new group of monsters called the 'Resurrected.' Rifts are categorized into standard Rifts found throughout Sanctuary (including Helltides), Overflowing Rifts that replace Helltide regional events, and Massive Rifts found only in the Fields of Blasphemy southeast of Zarbinzet. Massive Rifts are regional events that occur at set intervals and guarantee the summoning of a World Wanderer.
Based on feedback from the PTR regarding the tedious nature of Rift events that require staying in one spot for too long, the developers have increased the progression speed of Rifts and expanded the rewards obtained upon sealing them.
Defeating a World Wanderer in an Overflowing Rift or higher opens a portal to the 'Chamber of Death's Weight.' Inside, players can complete Rift events to earn various rewards. Notably, this chamber provides 'Rare Lair Keys' needed to open the stash of the season-exclusive boss, the 'Corrupted Reaper.' These keys serve as a new resource replacing the Belial Shells previously used to enter Belial's Lair, and are expected to become a core farming material.

Comprehensive Mythic Item Overhaul
In the Awakening of Death season, the Mythic grade is being overhauled to serve as a higher tier for Unique items, similar to 'Primal Ancient' items in Diablo 3. All Unique items can now drop as Mythic items, while existing Mythic Unique items are being converted into 'Iconic Mythic' items. Iconic Mythic items will no longer drop as Unique grade and can be crafted using Resplendent Sparks at the Blacksmith.
Mythic Unique items only drop as Ancestral items, featuring maximum rolls for all stats and a 30% increase to their unique ability. These can be crafted using the seasonal resource 'Chaos Shards,' obtained by defeating the seasonal Lair boss, the Corrupted Reaper, or found as a very rare drop across Sanctuary in place of Ancestral Unique items.
Players can equip only one crafted Mythic Unique item, while those obtained through monster drops or inventory can be equipped without restriction.
In the PTR, Mythic Unique items had random stats and could not be enchanted, requiring the Horadric Cube for stat changes. Reflecting feedback that crafting desired items took too long, the live server update will again disable stat changes via the Horadric Cube. Instead, each Mythic item will come with two fixed stats, and one of the two remaining random stats can be changed via Enchanting.
Furthermore, stats modified by Enchanting, as well as those added through Tempering and Masterworking, will always appear at their maximum values. Addressing feedback regarding excessive randomness in crafting, the system has been changed so that crafting a Mythic Unique item will result in an item for the same slot as the Unique item used as a material.

New Content and Quality-of-Life Improvements
Starting this season, a Solo Self-Found (SSF) mode is available. Characters created in SSF mode cannot participate in parties or trading, and they share inventory, resources, and Paragon levels only with other SSF characters on the same account. SSF mode features a separate leaderboard for competitive content like the Gauntlet, allowing for fairer competition.
Additionally, the Gauntlet, which remained in beta through Season 13, is officially launching. The Gauntlet offers base rewards for playing or reaching Tier 100, as well as special rewards like Halos and Prestige Titles for maintaining high rankings. While Halos and Prestige Titles are seasonal, players will receive an emblem after the season ends displaying their highest rank from the previous season.
Quality-of-life patches are also being implemented. The EXP gain from War Planning activities has been increased as Torment tiers rise, and new nodes providing higher EXP have been added to reduce the burden of leveling. Additionally, the cap for Murmuring Obols has been increased to 25,000, and the Gold cap has been raised to 999999999999.

Events and Collaborations
To celebrate the start of the Awakening of Death season, a free Warlock trial event will be held. From July 1 (Wed) to July 8 (Wed) at 2:00 AM, players can try the Warlock class for free up to level 30. Players can continue progressing the same character if they purchase the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
An Overwatch collaboration event is also planned. When the season begins, players can collect 'Overwatch Eyes' from Elite and Champion monsters to earn rewards from Overwatch Caches. Additionally, Overwatch-themed skins for each character will be released on July 1 (Wed) at 4:00 PM.
