A large-scale cultural fusion festival connecting the younger generations and creative industries of South Korea and Russia was successfully held in Moscow, Russia.
The Moscow Game & Animation Cluster, the world's first full-cycle content production hub operated by the Moscow City Government, announced on the 26th that it successfully concluded the first Korea-Russia Cultural Festival, 'K-Pop Cyber Saturday,' on the 23rd.
The event, jointly organized by the Moscow Agency of Creative Industries (ACI), the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), and the Russian Marketing Center, is particularly significant for expanding the scope of cooperation beyond traditional industrial sectors to include popular culture and youth exchange.
The esports event featuring globally popular games from both Korea and Russia drew the most attention. Tournaments for KRAFTON's global hit PUBG: Battlegrounds and Battlestate Games' Escape from Tarkov: Arena were held simultaneously, drawing an explosive response from local gamers.
Every nail-biting moment drew cheers and applause from the thousands of spectators in attendance, while the high-level gameplay from participants who had navigated a competitive pre-registration process further heightened the festival's energy.
Diverse K-content experience programs, including K-pop performances, food, and beauty, also heated up the atmosphere. The multinational girl group X:IN received a warm reception for their collaboration with Russian artist TSOY, followed by a masterclass from choreographer Kwak Sung-chang and a large-scale dance battle featuring about 100 participants.
In the food zone, a chef who won the 2024 Korea International Culinary Competition prepared kimchi fried rice, while a famous Russian chef presented traditional shchi soup and fish pie, engaging in an exciting culinary showdown decided by audience votes. Additionally, K-beauty consultations, cosplay experiences, and art toy exhibitions provided a wealth of entertainment that captivated visitors.
The two countries' institutions have maintained continuous cooperation in the content industry. In particular, the Moscow Agency of Creative Industries has worked to expand practical business exchanges, such as actively supporting the participation of Moscow-based game studios in G-STAR 2025, Korea's largest game exhibition held last year.
Song Yo-seop, Director of the KOCCA Russia Marketing Center, expressed his hope that 'K-Pop Cyber Saturday' would serve as a catalyst for even stronger content and cultural cooperation between Korea and Russia. Gulnara Agamova, Head of the Moscow Agency of Creative Industries, responded by stating that the festival is a prime example of how the creative industry can connect the younger generations and digital cultures of both nations to foster future-oriented international exchange, adding that she looks forward to continuously developing the relationship with Korea.
