MVP Max: “Instead of picking popular champions, we picked ones we wanted to play”

On the 13th day of the 2017 LCK Spring Split (Feb 9th, KST), MVP defeated Kongdoo Monster 2:1 in the first matchup of the day. During Set 3, Jong-bin “Max” Jeong contributed to the team’s victory by playing Vel’koz Support and dealing even more damage than Mid Laners. It was an impressive gameplay that showed what Supports are capable of.

Below is our post-match interview with Max.

How do you feel about winning today?

We were on a losing streak recently, so we really needed to win today. I hope today’s victory will mark the beginning of an upturn for our team.

How did your team managed to break losing streak?

Instead of picking popular champions, we picked ones we wanted to play. In other words, we picked our own champions. That is why we picked Vel’koz, Sion, and Zilean today.

Those champions are not one of the "best champions". Were you confident with playing those champions?

I was not 100 percent confident. I didn't to very well playing those champions in practice games, but my teammates and our coaches trusted me. I really appreciate that.

Is MVP going to pick some uncommon champions in the future?

Each one of us has at least one uncommon champion that we want to play, so we will be picking more champions that are not popular. This might give the other teams a hard time coming up with new strategies regarding picks and bans.

Kongdoo Monster's Graves was pretty impressive in Set 2. Any thoughts going into that?

I guess we made some mistakes. Maybe we were overconfident because we had won Set 1. We won’t be making same mistakes again.

This is your first time winning an MVP award. What did your teammates say about that?

They asked me what I want for dinner. Ian told me “you always help me with my interviews, so this time I’ll help you.” I thought the interview would be exciting, but I can’t remember a word I said.”

You will be playing against Jin Air Green Wings for your next match. How are you preparing for that?

Jin Air Green Wings is very skilled at playing long games. Unfortunately, that is not the case for our team, so we have to come up with a new strategy in order to win.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I wish I can win another MVP award and come to the press room again. Thank you!
