CoreJJ on Faker Saying That It Was Awkward to Be Around Him: “I’m emotionally hurt. (laughs)”

Gen.G is on a 3-game winning streak in the 2018 LCK Summer split. After a match, we had the chance to meet the team’s Support, Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in. He shared some of his thoughts on Gen.G’s performance and his experience in the Asian Games.

Q. With the 2:0 victory against MVP, the team is currently on a 3 game winning streak. How do you feel?

I’m satisfied that we were able to maintain the team’s positive atmosphere. However, a winning streak will someday end. It’s important for us to recover from it. That’s why the goal is to perform consistently.

Q. Gen.G’s performance becomes so much better every Fall. Do you have anything to say about that?

I’m not sure whether we really are better every Fall. It sill is a great motivator for our confidence though.

Q. In game 1, the team countered the ‘Master Yi - Taric’ comp by using Janna.

First of all, a lot of Support champions were banned and among what was left, Janna seemed to be the best pick. Frankly speaking, I wasn’t that satisfied about my performance using Janna. I think it wasn’t enough. Next time, I’ll be showing better performance against that comp.

Q. The opponent showed some considerable strength in late-game teamfights in game 1.

In teamfights, the opponent was really hard to stop. I thought that we had to fall back and make use of our mobility.

Q. In game 2, you were remarkable with your Tahm Kench; you seemed to be everywhere. How would you rate your Tahm Kench?

I think I didn’t make any mistakes in today’s game. Um… It’s embarrassing to rate my own plays…(laughs)

Q. Gen.G seems to be the only team that is using traditional ADC champions. Aren’t you concerned about losing advantage in lane?

Our ADC/Marksman’s (Ruler) laning is good when using traditional ADC champs so I’m not that concerned.

Q. Fly’s seems to be showing some good chemistry with the team. Do you agree?

The team’s chemistry is really good since we are currently on a winning streak. Well, I think that a good team should be able to maintain a positive atmosphere even when they are losing. That’s why i think it’s a bit too early to rate [Fly’s chemistry].

Q. I heard that you were roommates with ‘Faker’ when you were performing in the Asian Games. Did you feel awkward around him? In his live stream, Faker said that he felt awkward. (laughs)

I’m emotionally hurt right now. (laughs) Well, we’ll meet more in the near future, so I’d like to get to know him better.

Q. Are there any other fun or interesting stories about the Asian Games?

Not really. Oh, I cracked my phone screen in Hong Kong, so I wasn’t able to use it. I had to share Faker’s alarm clock. But, we once were late because we misunderstood the wake up time.

Q. People say that you and your Top laner, ‘Mong’ look alike. What do you think? (laughs)

I’m not really sure since Mong doesn’t wear glasses. Well, since people say it, it is probably true. I did hear that we look alike, but I’m not that sure.

Q. What are your thoughts on the team’s next match against Hanwha Life Esports?

The match against Hanwha Life Esports is very important. I’m going to believe that as long as we stick to what we’re good at, we won’t lose. We’ll focus on improving our overall performance. Thank you.
