With one week remaining in the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split, FlyQuest is making some changes to its roster. Jungler Brandon Joel "Josedeodo" Villegas and mid laner Cristian "Palafox" Palafox will be returning to the LCS roster for week 9 alongside top laner Colin "Kumo" Zhao, AD carry Frank "Tomo" Lam and support David "Diamond" Bérubé.

Of the bottom three LCS teams, FlyQuest has the best record, but only by one game over Golden Guardians and two games over Counter Logic Gaming. With only one spot in the 2021 LCS Championship remaining, FLY's shakeup might be what it needs to lock the 8th seed in the post-season.

This is the first time Josedeodo and Palafox have started in the LCS since week 5 of the Summer Split. After losing nine games in a row, FLY decided to make a change by subbing out top laner Eric "Licorice" Ritchie, AD carry Johnson "Johnsun" Nguyen and support Han "Dreams" Min-kook for Kumo, Tomo, and Diamond.

FlyQuest's hybrid roster lost the last match of week 5, bringing the losing streak to 10, and Licorice was promptly transferred to Golden Guardians. Kumo was promoted to the LCS roster alongside the rest of FlyQuest Academy, and as 'FLY 2.0' the squad won its first four LCS matches.

Since then, FLY has come crashing back down to earth, losing its last five matches, so FLY has opted to start the roster that was only seen once in a week 5 loss to Team Liquid for the final week. It's also possible that sending jungler Hoangan "Nxi" Dinh and mid laner Stephen "Triple" Li could be a benefit for the new FLY Academy roster, which features the former LCS bot lane of Johnsun and Dreams as well as newly signed top laner Philip "Philip" Zeng, who joined after Licorice's departure.

Nxi and Triple may be more familiar with opponents in the LCS Academy League, but regardless of who has started for FLY Academy this split, it has been mostly a success. FLY is in first place in the LCS Academy League Summer Split and has won 75% of its games.
