Envy, Dallas Fuel are helping parents learn about gaming, esports

This weekend at OP Live Dallas (Sept. 22-23), a Texas gaming convention in partnership with Team Envy and the Dallas Fuel, there is a main attraction for the mystified parents gamer kids are bound to drag along with them: the Parent Lost & Found Talks.

While their kids are watching the collegiate Overwatch tournament and having their Envy jerseys signed by pro players, parents can attend a number of talks by industry professionals intended to explain the world of gaming and esports, and where their child may fit into these rapidly growing billion dollar industries.

"Worried your child is playing too many video games? Fear not! We have created a series of presentations to help you understand esports and how it fits in with your child’s life," says OP Live. "We want to help you understand and share the same experience your children love. ... From esports, to game design, to influencer streamer, to the thousands of supporting roles and businesses in between, gaming has come a long way from what it once was."

Five total talks will be given on Saturday, September 22nd, with the earliest beginning at 10:45 in the morning and the latest at 6 at night. The schedule is as follows:

10:45 am: Social Communities in Games by Eli Luna
11:15 am: Debunking Video Game Myths by Robert Atkins
2:30 pm: A Parent’s Guide to Understanding Esports by Lean Mateos
5:45 pm: Career Opportunities in Games by Adam Radford
6:00 pm:  How My Education Helps Me at Gearbox by Mario Rodriguez

The speakers range from video game artists to level designers to producers and career counselors. Most are alumni of SMU Guildhall, an institution OP Live Dallas describes as “the number one video game development school in the world.” In partnership with the school, event attendees will also have an opportunity to see how video games are created.

OP Live Dallas will also feature a one-day, 16-team collegiate Overwatch tournament; a Fortnite Royale brawl; player meet-and-greets; "Powered Talks" by other industry professionals; and, more.

Pro players Hyeong “EFFECT” Hwang, Min-seok “OGE” Son, Anthony "Fire" King,  "LeNain",  Gorilla, and "Scratch" will be in attendance, as well as Dallas Fuel coaches Aaron "Aero" Atkins and Justin "Jayne" Conroy and general manager Mat "Tazmo" Taylor.
