Pearl Abyss Acquires CCP Games, the Developer of EVE Online, for $225 Million

On September 6th (KST), Pearl Abyss announced their acquisition of CCP Games, the developer of the global hit, EVE Online.

CCP Games developed the game called EVE Online, an SF MMORPG. The game is one of the most financially successful titles worldwide, with about 40 million total subscribers. The company is currently developing a mobile game named Project Galaxy with the EVE Online IP.

Upon signing the contract, Pearl Abyss acquired 100% of CCP Games’ available shares along with management rights. The two parties will act as an individual studio but also proceed with various collaborations to capitalize on their shared resources.

“I’m glad to be with CCP Games, who shares many similarities with Pearl Abyss such as passion for MMORPGs and confidence in its self-made engine. We’ll do our best [to work towards the] mutual development of both companies through this acquisition,” said Gyeongin Jung, CEO at Pearl Abyss.

“I was astonished by Pearl Abyss’ fast growth and huge potential, and I became a fan of Black Desert Online which was made with great development skills. We’d like to leap further ahead with Pearl Abyss for those who play our game,” said Hilmar Veigar Petursson, CEO at CCP Games.

Pearl Abyss developed the global success, Black Desert Online, and hit a revenue record through Black Desert Mobile in the first half of this year since its release in February. Now, with a new global IP in its possession, Pearl Abyss aims for stable corporate growth.
