On day 30 of the 2021 LCK Summer split, T1 defeated Afreeca Freecs 2-1 in the second match of the day. Tonight marked the third match in a row that T1’s sub jungler, Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon, started for the team; he played a key role tonight in leading his team to victory, especially on a non-conventional pick, Trundle, in game 3.

After the match, Oner joined Inven Global for a post-match interview.

Thoughts on the victory?

Tonight’s victory marks the first time that I’ve ever gotten three consecutive match wins, so it’s very meaningful.

Game 2 was a drawn out game between the two teams, but T1 ultimately lost. What was the feedback that the team received to prepare for game 3?

We really didn’t expect Tristana to be played in the top lane. We were definitely underprepared for it, so we said that as long as we deal with such off-meta picks like that, we felt we’d be fine.

You played Trundle in game 3. There’s a divide in opinion on his viability in the meta, so what do you think are Trundle’s biggest strengths in the current meta?

His biggest strength is in being able to set up terrain with his pillar so that the carries of the team can safely damage. Also, he’s a very good pick against enemy tank champions because of his ult. In a meta where early skirmishing is very important, he does fairly well because you usually take Press the Attack and build Divine Sunderer as your mythic item.

Lillia was one of the four champions that received a mini rework to her kit in patch 11.14. Where do you rate her in the current meta?

I think that she’s definitely worse than Diana; on Diana, you can just single handedly carry games. If she’s banned, however, I think there’s room for her in the meta.

Now that you’ve had about a week to work with the new coaches, how has the team dynamic changed since the departure of Daeny and Zefa?

Currently, our practice is based on the knowledge that Daeny and Zefa have passed on to us during their term, so our current coaches and my teammates are having intimate discussions to plan for our matches.

Does the team’s original goal of going to Worlds and producing great results remain the same? Or did the team’s goal get recalibrated?

Our goal remains the same, but our immediate goal is getting to Worlds, so we’re tackling the problems that are immediately present within the team.

What are your personal goals for this split?

Becoming world champion is the final goal, but I want to get as much time on stage as the starting jungler and be acknowledged for it.
