After a perfect 9-0 round robin in the first half of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split, Cloud9 has been made mortal. 100 Thieves handed the reigning LCS champion its first loss of summer. At 9-1, C9 still remains in first place, but one would have expected the team's first loss to occur one day earlier. TSM looked like the team most likely to draw blood from C9, but the new 100 Thieves roster was the team that ended up getting the job done.

Juan "Contractz" Arturo Garcia took a page out of Robert "Blaber" Huang's book and slapped the C9 Jungler around with Olaf, while Kim "Ssumday" Chan-ho's Camille got an early advantage against Eric "Licorice" Ritchie's Jayce and never looked back.

Contractz spoke to Gabriella "LeTigress" Devia-Allen in a post-game interview on the LCS broadcast, where he was asked about defeating his former team C9 and the reigning Honda LCS MVP Blaber. Contractz was straightforward about his ability to edge Blaber out, which was a huge factor in 100's win, but showed respect:

"Blaber is still the best Jungler in NA. I'm looking forward to future matches against him."

100 Thieves' record of 4-6 is far from ideal for a team that qualified for the post-season in spring, but since starting Contractz and Support Philippe "Poome"  Lavoie-Giguere in place of William "Meteos" Hartman and William "Stun" Chen, respectively, the squad has gone 3-1.

Cloud9's loss is its first in 93 days and only its 3rd of 2020. In week 7 of the 2020 LCS Spring Split, TSM triumphed over Cloud9 in the eventual champion's only regular season loss before today. C9's other loss came in a 3-1 victory over Evil Geniuses in the 2020 LCS Spring Playoffs.

Edit: An earlier version of this article stated, that 100 Thieves has gone 2-2 since starting Contractz and Poome. It has since been updated with the accurate record of 3-1.
