DAMWON Hoit: “Bot laners don’t have much impact on the game nowadays unless they are playing Ezreal.”

DAMWON Gaming defeated Jin Air Green Wings 2-0 on February 16th, the 4th day of Week 4 for the LCK 2019 Spring Season. Hoit, along with Aries and Nuclear, helped his team win in today’s match. The following is our interview with Hoit, the support for DAMWON Gaming.

How do you feel about your victory?

I felt sorry that we performed just as much as we prepared. But still, it feels great to win.

Your team joined the top 5 with today’s victory.

We lost previous games because we made many mistakes that were almost equivalent to throwing. We also have records of being on a losing streak. I think we will be able to stay in the top 5 if we manage to perform as well as we used to.

How was your coordination with Aries in game 1?

I think our coordination was alright. It was our first time playing together in a tournament, which we are somewhat satisfied with. I think it would have turned out to be an easy win if we didn’t make any mistakes. We were pushing the enemy’s first mid turret when we let our guard down and let the enemy team take away the advantage we had.

What do you think is the difference between Nuclear and Aries?

Nuclear deals damage in a stable manner while Aries prefers to play aggressively and does play well. I suspect he was nervous because it was his first game today. I think he will be able to deliver better performance once he gets used to it.

What role do you think you play within DAMWON Gaming during the match?

I used to prefer playmaking champions. Champions like that aren’t great for support nowadays. I’ve completely changed my style to doing my laning more stable and then focusing on the team fights. It feels a little frustrating to play these champions since I used to prefer playing aggressively, but now I have to play defensively.

Your next opponent is Hanwha Life Esports, which is placed 4th. In a way, it is much more important than your previous match against Jin Air Green Wings, which you had to win in order to be placed 5th.

Not making any mistakes is the most important thing of all. I think that we will be able to gain the upper hand if we don’t make any mistakes. Each mistake made in a match played between pro gamers is huge. There's the possibility of us winning only if we are able to make the correct decision in each situation. Sangyoon and Key are indeed great players but I don’t think they are someone we can’t win against. Actually, I think the laning in the top part of the map will become the most important key in the next match. Bot laners don’t have much impact on the game nowadays unless they are playing Ezreal.

Lastly, any final comments?

We keep making mistakes in the most critical moments. We will focus on improving this so that we can display better performance in our next game.
