Nintendo Direct suddenly announced, Super Smash Bros. fans await final DLC announcement

The Super Smash Bros. community has been pulled all over the place. An insider said that the next Nintendo Direct would be in September (last week actually), then changed to October when that didn't happen... And now Nintendo itself has said that a Nintendo Direct is coming tomorrow.

In a tweet this morning, Nintendo of America stated that a Nintendo Direct was coming September 23. And many Smash fans are wondering if they will finally hear about the final Smash DLC to be added to the roster.

When is the Nintendo Direct?

The Nintendo Direct is coming on September 23 at 3 PM PST or 6 PM EST. As usual, Nintendo likes to keep things hush-hush so fans aren't too shocked that they were only told about the Nintendo Direct a day before.

What is going to be discussed in the Nintendo Direct?

According to the Nintendo Direct tweet, Nintendo of America stated that the presentation will be 40 minutes of "information focused mainly on Nintendo Switch games launching this winter."

This means we'll likely hear about Metroid Dread, a 2D Metroid game coming out on October 8. This highly anticipated game is going to wrap up the Samus story arc that originated in 1986 and introduce new enemies, like the E.M.M.I robots, and new abilities like the Phantom Cloak.

Mario Party stans are waiting for more information on Mario Party Superstars, an epic addition to the series with 100 mini-games from across the series' history. This game is coming out October 29.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl are coming November 19. These are remakes of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, bringing trainers back to the Sinnoh region as they battle their way to becoming the Pokemon League Champion. The new chibi art style has been polarizing for the Pokemon community.

Nintendo fans may also get some dates for Card Shark, Blue Fire, and Mineko's Night Market

Will the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC be announced in the Nintendo Direct?

While learning about upcoming Nintendo Switch titles is always exciting, the question most people have is if the Nintendo Direct will finally reveal the final Super Smash Bros. DLC fighter.

There is allegedly only one slot left in the Fighter Pass (and for eternity), meaning the next Smash DLC fighter will be the last. This has caused a lot of speculation, with some insiders saying the fighter will be third-party. Fans are all sharing their most-wanted Smash fighters, from Crash Bandicoot to Rayman to Doomguy to Waluigi.

There is no proof that the Nintendo Direct will bring up the Smash DLC at all. But the timing makes sense. Sakurai stated that the last DLC fighter will be announced and released in 2021.

But Sakurai himself recently told fans to not expect the DLC "any time soon." A Smash insider also said that the Nintendo Direct focused on the Smash Bros. fighter will be in October. This means the Smash announcement may have its own Direct separate from this one.

Still, original rumors hinted at the Smash DLC being announced in September. So it's possible this Nintendo Direct will include the long-awaited final announcement.
