In the fourth round of the 2025 LCK regular season, Gen.G Esports overcame T1 by a 2–1 margin. In the postgame interview, head coach Kim "KIM" Jeong-soo and jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu reflected on what made the victory possible, outlined their drafting approach, and discussed the implications of besting T1.
Canyon noted that, as expected, facing T1 presented significant challenges, but he was pleased that the team managed to build momentum they can sustain in upcoming matches. He credited their success chiefly to strong teamfighting—winning pivotal skirmishes proved decisive—and praised his teammates for consistently executing well.
Coach Kim elaborated on their ban–pick choices. For the first two games, they opted for compositions centered on engaging in teamfights; the Game One lineup, though familiar, revealed its weaknesses under pressure. In Game Two, despite ceding early map control, they committed to a teamfight‐oriented draft anchored by the new champion Yunara, trusting that it could carry them through. By Game Three, they shifted to Ziggs—which offered superior laning stability and range—allowing them to establish a comfortable lead from the outset.
When asked about fielding Yunara so soon after her release, Coach Kim admitted there was inherent risk given the limited data on her counters. He explained that although Ruler was initially hesitant, he persuaded the ADC to embrace the uncertainty, noting that no newly patched champion comes fully explored at launch and that they intend to refine their understanding further.
On the turning point in the decider, Canyon described how vision control alerted them to Nocturne’s top-lane approach. Recognizing that a 2-on-2 would favor Gen.G, they executed a timely counter-gank. Even after Jax’s early interference slowed his leveling, Canyon emphasized that post-patch dynamics allow for recovery; while T1 invested key cooldowns, he focused on maximizing his farm and experience.
Both coach and jungler framed the triumph as a stepping stone toward greater ambitions. Canyon emphasized that although defeating T1 is a morale boost, the ultimate objective remains prevailing at Worlds, and they plan to leverage this win as motivation to elevate their play. Kim Jeong-soo agreed that while today’s victory feels rewarding, their primary focus stays on securing championships in the Finals and at Worlds, stating, "I’m happy about today’s win, but in the end we have to win at Worlds."
They closed by expressing gratitude to supporters: Canyon thanked the fans for their unwavering encouragement and urged everyone to stay healthy in the summer heat, and Coach Kim vowed to keep the team’s practice regimen intense, inviting continued fan support.
