KDF Teddy: "T1 had a long winning streak, and I'm happy that we were able to stop them."

On June 29, in the 2022 LCK Summer Split, Kwangdong Freecs defeated T1 2-1 and put a stop to T1’s winning streak. Kwangdong Freecs upset T1 as it was the first loss for T1 this season and year. Kwangdong Freecs featured some unique picks in their win, in Seraphine and Ashe support. After the match, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong joined the media to talk about today’s win.

How do you feel about today’s win?

T1 had a long winning streak, and I'm happy that we were able to stop them.

It’s your former team. Does it feel different?

It was the first time I beat T1 since I moved teams. I really wanted to win, and I think it came early enough. We saw more possibilities as a team with today’s win.

What possibilities?

That if we prepare well, we could beat such strong teams as T1. The team morale rose massively too. We’ll continue to prepare well.

In game 3, you picked Ashe. How did you end up picking Ashe?

I saw the LEC play her. According to Alvingo, people pick the Ashe-Seraphine bot too. With this item build, it looked good when Seraphine takes up the CS. Frankly, we only practiced Senna-Seraphine, but I was confident in playing Ashe, so I said we should pick it. Seraphine was really good.

Usually, bot laners play ADC. How was playing Ashe support?

Ashe is a champion that does her role if she uses her ult and hawk well. I said that I’ll use my ult often and find the enemy jungle well, so I did that.

What’s so good about Seraphine?

When you have Seraphine, the frontline tanks don’t die and she pressures the back lines of the opponent. Seraphine’s skillset is really good in terms of damage and she’s also great in clearing the lane, while Senna-Tahm Kench takes longer to do so.

It was a regretful start for Kwangdong Freecs this summer. How will today’s win help the team?

We’ve been working hard to work together as a team. If we prepare well, we can take down the best teams too. If we prepare well and find good champions, we’ll be able to reach higher places.

What did you lack in the past few matches?

Things like focus calls or positioning. We needed to gather before objectives and get ready, but it didn’t work well. The team was rather gloomy during our losing streak, but we kept thinking about how we can improve. Fortunately, it worked out well for us.

At what position do you think Kwangdong Freecs would be in by the end of the season?

At the beginning of the split, I was really confident, but I started to lose confidence as we lost. I’m happy that we beat T1 today. Our goal as a team is to improve continuously. We’ll keep improving so that we can reach Worlds.

Your next match is against Gen.G. How will you face them?

When I watched Gen.G play, their Singed scared me. We’ll need to come up with a way to deal with Singed. Each team has a different meta. We also need to find a proper meta for our team. If we find a good champion early enough, we’ll be able to beat Gen.G too.
