After winning the 2022 VCS Spring Playoffs, GAM Esports passed on representing Vietnam at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational to represent their country in the League of Legends competition at the 31st SEA Games. As the Vietnamese League of Legends team, the GAM Esports roster defeated the Philippines in the final to win SEA Games 31.

Due to GAM's foregoing of MSI 2022, VCS Spring Playoffs runner-up Saigon Buffalo have attended in their place. SGB did well in the Group Stage, finishing 4-2 as the 2nd seed of Group A behind LCK representative T1, but is currently 0-6 after three days of Rumble Stage play.

Six countries took place in the League of Legends circuit of the 31st SEA Games, which was added to the competition in 2019. Vietnam was seeded into Group B with Malaysia and Laos; Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines fought it out in Group A. Vietnam went 4-0 in Group B with Malaysia at 2-2 and Laos at 0-4. Group A featured a two-way tie for 1st place between Singapore and the Philippines with Thailand finishing 0-4.

The final stage featured best-of-five matches, and Vietnam wasted no time dominating Singapore in a clean sweep. While Singapore and Malaysia, the latter of whom had lost 3-1 to the Philippines on the other side of the bracket, battled for the bronze medal, Vietnam followed up their sweep with another 3-0 in the final to win the gold medal and complete a 10-0 run of the event. The Philippines settled for the silver medal, and in a 3-1 victory, Singapore took the bronze medal over Malaysia.
