Hearthstone Esports Leadership Moves to Ubisoft

Che Chou, formerly of Blizzard Entertainment, has joined Ubisoft as the company's Senior Esports Director.

Chou most recently worked for Blizzard as the Senior Global Franchise Lead for Hearthstone Esports. His departure from the company last Friday is one of many changes Blizzard is making throughout the company. Based on the timeline, it can be surmised that Chou may have been looking for new opportunities given the recent changes in Blizzard leadership.

Taking Chou's place as the Senior Global Franchise Lead for Hearthstone Esports is Sam Braithwaite. Braithwaite was in charge of esports for both Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft, and spent the past six months working behind the scenes in the Hearthstone Esports department. Braithwaite most recently appeared with Chou in the Hearthstone Esports 2019 Update vlog back in November to discuss Hearthstone's new competitive ecosystem.

With Blizzard pulling the plug on HotS esports, it's no surprise that the company is shifting some of its resources and staff permanently. An enhanced focus on Blizzard's flagship titles and new opportunities may be the company's plan for 2019 and beyond.

Sam Braithwaite, known as "Milkfat" in the Blizzard community, appeared in the Forbes' magazine's "30 Under 30" in the gaming industry.
