'OpenAI' Artificial Intelligence Program Defeats a Human Team in a 5 VS 5 Dota2 Event Match

On the 5th of August (local time), the ‘OpenAI’ A.I. program defeated the human team in a Dota2 event match called ‘OpenAI Five Benchmark’ held in San Francisco. To give a brief introduction, OpenAI is a nonprofit A.I. research institute that was co-founded by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The OpenAI team secured 2 wins in a row and defeated the human team which was mostly composed of Dota2 experts such as former pro gamers and game casters.

As a matter of fact, this was not the first time an OpenAI program defeated a human team in Dota2. On August 2017, OpenAI A.I. program went 1 vs 1 against a renowned Dota2 player named Dendi in The International 2017. The result was a 2:0 victory by OpenAI. After the match, Dendi stated, “It was too strong. It was like playing against a human being.”

Although there have been numerous cases where an A.I. program defeated players in esports, sports etc., it is yet surprising to see a human team composed with expert gamers being defeated in a 5 vs 5 match.
