Brigitte is officially live on Overwatch servers, but will she change the meta?

The highly anticipated support hero is finally available to play on live servers. The 2nd consecutive support hero to be added (Moira was before), Brigitte serves as a tanky frontline healer that also has the capability of punishing fragile dive heroes if they get too close.

Pro players have predicted a shift in the meta with her inclusion in the game, citing that Tracer, Genji, and especially Winston are going to be harder to play when Briggite's multiple CC threats are added to any team composition. Currently, the "dive" meta is the most popular type of strategy during competitive play, and some people think Brigitte might disrupt that. However, some pros still have varying opinions on how effective she will be.

For example, this excerpt from an interview with HarryHook,  support player for Dallas Fuel, argues that Brigitte might not change the meta as much as people hope:

So do you think Brigitte will provide strong enough pressure against dive, or just be a speed bump and dive will still define the highest level of play?

"I think it is going to be the same, the new hero won’t change anything. At best, you force the other team to change their Genji or Tracer, but, once again, they will just pick Soldier: 76 and never full engage -- ever. They will just poke you down and then dive when someone is low HP."

However, Nomy, tank player for San Francisco Shock, seems to think she will at least make life much harder dive compositions looking to get a kill.

Dive is still going to be really strong and good coordination is still important, but the fact that she provides armor is insane. Dive relies a lot on tempo kills -- everyone dives in, someone dies, Genji get's a dash reset, and then you win. But armor helps survive that burst damage.

▲ But you can really help us against dive, Brigitte?

Regardless of whether or not Brigitte is as powerful as anti-dive players hope, she very likely won't be seen in the Overwatch League until the next stage, as players have not had enough time to properly test or play her in a competitive environment. She is also not available in competitive mode, a decision recently announced by Jeff Kaplan to ensure that competitive mode stays just that and not a place to “try out the new hero”.
