Red Bull Pin Drop brings Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 to life at historic Kona Skatepark

Red Bull Pin Drop will bring the recently relaunched Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 to the historic Kona Skatepark on Aug. 2, blending digital gameplay with live skateboarding. The daylong event will showcase team-based matchups that pair virtual competitors with in-park skateboarders in a novel format.

Eight gamers will each attempt a 90-second high-score run on the Kona Skatepark level in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4, while their skateboarder teammates will ride the park’s renowned concrete bowls for 50 seconds. Judges will evaluate the skateboarders on style, technical difficulty and creativity, with combined team scores determining the Pin Drop champions.

Attendees will have opportunities to play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 on site, try cash-for-tricks contests, and hunt for hidden challenges inspired by game objectives. Kona Skatepark, founded in 1977, is recognized as the world’s oldest continuously operating private skatepark and a pillar of skateboarding history, offering authentic terrain that mirrors the game’s digital design.

Event organizers will unveil new park features and course updates timed with the Pin Drop showcase. The event coincides with the Pro Skater 3 + 4 release, celebrating a franchise credited with introducing millions to skate culture. Activision has partnered with Red Bull to translate the virtual experience back into the original real-world venue.

Spectators are welcome from noon to 8 p.m. ET with free admission, while competitors must register in advance. The initial Red Bull athlete roster includes Jamie Foy, a two-time Thrasher Skater of the Year and in-game character; Zion Wright, also featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4; and Red Bull team rider Jake Wooten. Further athlete announcements will be made as the event approaches.

Red Bull Pin Drop’s integration of video game and park-based skateboarding aims to highlight the shared creativity and athleticism at the heart of both mediums, drawing on Kona Skatepark’s storied legacy to give gamers and skaters a first-hand crossover experience.
